Dr. Robert Fox

“From all of us here at Fox Orthodontics, thankyou for your 40 years of service. You will be missed and happy retirement”.

Dr. Robert (Roy) Fox is one of the leading orthodontists in the Hills, Lower North Shore areas. His practice, Fox Orthodontics is a family orientated practice that was established over 30 years ago in Baulkham Hills. Dr. Fox grew up in Belfast, Northern Ireland and completed his dental degree at Queens University of Belfast. On completion of his degree, he worked in the Oral Surgery program at Belfast’s Royal Victoria Hospital where he dealt with road accidents, gunshot, and explosion victims in the early part of the troubled times in Northern Ireland. He was transferred to the Orthodontic Department at the request of his Professor and obtained his Fellowship in Oral Surgery and Orthodontics from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and in parallel his Diploma in Orthodontics from the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

Dr. Fox believes that the greatest reward in orthodontic practice is by forming good relationships with his patients. He prides himself in the long-standing relationships he and his team have developed with their patients and their families. Each patient of Dr. Fox is unique where he tailors the solution that suits the desire and lifestyle of each individual. Dr. Fox is well known for his gentle and relaxed attitude throughout his consultations and treatments. He achieves excellent results that have developed many lasting friendships, particularly with those who appreciate his cheerful sense of humour.

Dr. Fox became the Senior Registrar of Orthodontics at Queens University where his desire to travel developed. This desire led him to Australia where he worked in the Public Dental Service in North Sydney and also had a teaching commitment at Sydney University. In the early nineties, he set up his own practice that he continues to successfully run today. Dr. Fox and his family are committed and play an active role in their local community.

The basis for Dr. Fox’s treatment philosophy is the Hippocratic oath to do no harm. His approach is therefore conservative with the emphasis on retaining as many teeth as possible. Dr. Fox has gained special skills and insights from the British Medical Research Council where he recognises which patients will benefit from various appliances and those that would not, either for biological reasons or because they psychologically decline to take advantage of them. To ensure the best results for his patients, Dr. Fox personally provides all the treatments himself so that everyone has a pleasant and cheerful experience when they visit the dentist.

Questions?

Some soreness and feeling of pressure is completely normal after activating the expander. Whilst getting accustomed to your expander you may find that eating and eating feels different, which is completely expected whilst you adjust and acclimatise. It is also common to see gaps develop between the front teeth. These are all completely typical and shows the expander is having the desired effect.

Clear Aligners (Invisalign) are used to move the teeth sequentially into their final positions. The aligners are changed every 7-10 days and are replaced with a new aligner. The severity of misalignment of teeth and jaws treatment will influence the number of aligners required and the cost of treatment. A typical orthodontic treatment takes about 18-24 months and the treatment fees for fixed braces (Metal) ranges from $6500-8500. If you select ceramic braces or clear braces there may be an additional cost of $500-1000. Invisalign has been a market leader in this segment for many years but since the last few years many new aligner systems have arrived. Clear aligners for a similar duration of treatment may cost between $6500-9000. Please speak to your orthodontist about which treatment may be most appropriate and which aligner system will suit your needs.
Clear aligners (Invisalign) are custom made, removable plates that are barely noticeable. They do not interfere in your social life, there is freedom to eat or drink whatever you like, and you can brush and floss very easily. But There are some disadvantages of Invisalign that you need to consider before starting with a Clear Aligner (Invisalign) treatment: Clear aligners must be removed before eating and drinking anything apart from water. You may have to remove your retainers carefully and place them in the retainer box to ensure you do not break them or lose them. Before placing the aligners back, you may consider brushing your teeth and rinsing the aligners before placing them back in the mouth. Clear aligners require strict compliance from the patient and require at least 22 hours per day wear, therefore if you are not disciplined you may either not achieve the desired outcome or your treatment duration will be long. Clear aligners (Invisalign) involve additional cost for fabrication therefore may cost you more if compared to similar treatment with traditional braces. Some misalignments like rotated, impacted teeth, deep bite are difficult to treat and may take a long time with clear aligners. If the teeth and gums are healthy and your orthodontist is ready to start your treatment, braces can be placed in some cases on the same day. Clear Aligners (Invisalign) require an Orthodontist to submit your case first and work with the technician overseas to set up your case this in most instances may cause a lag in the initial phase of a few weeks before your treatment can be started. Please speak to your orthodontist to best find out what will be the best and most efficient treatment option for you.
